Take the leap and jump into volunteering!
Volunteering is rewarding and is a great opportunity to help others.
Contact any officer for information on how you can help by volunteering your time or talents to the Wisconsin Burn Survivors Network.
Here are some comments from a few of our volunteers:
"As a psychologist who works with children and adults, I have seen quite clearly the negative effects of feeling isolated and misunderstood that often are experienced by burn survivors. Having a burn survivor network that is statewide is a brilliant idea that can connect burn survivors with others who have had the same experiences, but who might have never before met another burn survivor. Survivors who join the network have experienced a renewed sense of hope and a strong sense of belonging that had often been absent in their lives since their injuries. Caregivers, loved ones and friends of burn survivors find the strength and support that they need in a warm and friendly environment. I support the mission of this organization fully, and I volunteer my own time whenever I am able."
- Denise K. Reese, Ph.D.
"WBSN strives to make and keep relationships that will endure any test they are given. The group allows an opportunity for all burn survivors to connect to every other member and "network" to find the support they need, or that they can offer. What does volunteering for the WBSN mean to me personally? I have worked in the healthcare field for 20 years and have never experienced something as rewarding as seeing patients heal and succeed. I do not often get this opportunity, and the personal fulfillment that I have received from my volunteering with the WBSN is
beyond words. I know the friendships that I am forming are lifelong.
The only way to describe it to someone is to tell them to come and get involved, and you will be changed forever, along with the chance to positively change others' lives.
